The Science Behind Tocopherals

Tocopherols, also known as TCP, are a chemical compound that contain a substantial amount of vitamin E activity. This compound that makes up vitamin e oil can be found in several different forms. Four of these forms are known as tocopherols and four are known as tocotrienols.

Alpha-tocopherols are the form of the compound that is absorbed and stored in the human body. Unfortunately, the human body is incapable of producing tocopherols making it essential to deliver the supplement through vitamins or other nutritious means so the body can meet the daily requirements. The highest concentration of vitamin e is found in the pituitary glands.

The most important function of the compound is in it’s antioxidant properties that help neutralize many free radicals within the body that lead to damaged cells and commonly premature aging. So, by neutralizing free radicals, vitamin E slows the aging process and can even prevent certain types of cancer.
